Kashmiri Chicken Yakhni || Kokur Yakhin || Chicken in Yogurt gravy

 
This is an amazing dish which has always garnered praises at dinner table. My guests have always asked for more servings. The fried chicken simmered in yogurt gravy with aromatic spices makes it an total affair. Do try this recipe if you want to impress your family or guests.

Ingredients :

Yogurt 1 kg
Chicken 1 kg
Onion 1 chopped finely
Garlic 4 sliced 
Cinnamon 1 stick 
Black cardamom 2 
Green cardamom 2 
Peppercorns 4 
Fennel seed powder/ saunf 1 tbsp 
Cumin powder 1 tsp 
Coriander powder 1/2 tsp 
Dry mint 1 tbsp 
Salt to taste 
1 cup oil 
Half cup ghee


Method :

1. In a wok/ kadai pour oil. Once it hot. Add chicken pieces and fry until they turn golden. Fry all chicken pieces and keep it aside.

2. In a sauce pan pour ghee and add chopped onion and fry it until its golden brown. keep it aside.

3. Take a cooking pot and pour in yogurt. Add little water and whisk the yogurt until smooth, Now place it on stove and start cooking the yogurt on high flame stirring continuously. keep stirring until the yogurt starts to boil.

4. To the boiling yogurt add the whole spices and spice powders , garlic and one glass of water. Stir well

5. Add the fried chicken and mix well.

6. Add the fried onion with ghee and salt to taste and dry mint leaves and mix generously.

7. Once it starts to boil close the lid and simmer down for 10 min.

8. Chicken yakhni is ready. Relish dish with steaming rice or Jeera Pulao
